Determining the Name of One's Personal Daemon
Use this information with caution. When you receive the name from this method, check the Isopsephy of the name. Proceed with caution.
So I believe it is safe to say that most people, who are involved in the Occult, have heard of one’s Holy Guardian Angel. Now, if your practice has a Hellenic aspect to it as mine does, you probably view this as your Daemon, or perhaps you see them as two separate entities. Regardless, over the years my focus has revolved around this spirit and making contact, and here I am going to share a method of determining your own Daemon’s name, by using your natal chart. A lot, if not most of you, have heard of the method described by Agrippa in the “Three Books of Occult Philosophy”, and while this is a valid method, I’m sharing a different method.
I got this idea from different sources, one being my mentor and teacher, and another from PGM XIII. 734 - 1077 (Greek Magical Papyri). During the instruction for "the recitation of the heptagram", which is also called "the spell to which God gives attention", you are calling upon the Agathos Daemon. During the recitation you recite “in which your seven-lettered name is established for the harmony of the seven sounds”. This is a reference to the seven vowels of the Greek alphabet. We also know that each of the seven vowels is attributed to one of the ancient seven planets;
Moon A
Mercury E
Venus H
Sun I
Mars O
Jupiter Y
Saturn Ω
In Agrippa’s method, we cast the letters of the Hebrew alphabet to the degrees of the zodiac, in a counterclockwise direction. Due to the number of letters in the Hebrew alphabet, the letters do not fall evenly among the zodiac. Now, if we apply the Greek alphabet to the degrees of the zodiac, we have a perfect fit.
To do this you will need the exact time of your birth to determine the degrees of each planet, at that time.
So, to determine this specifically for you, find the degree and sign of your ascendant, and place the letter Alpha (A), beginning the alphabet. Casting the letters counterclockwise, with the flow of the signs, find the letter that falls on each of the seven ancient planets. Write these letters out in the manner in which they fall.
If you do not get a pronounceable name, you may need to add vowels. To do this, I like to look at the first letter, in which the vowel will follow. The first vowel in that letter's written name is the vowel that I prefer to use. For example, if the letter is Γ (Gamma), I would use A (Alpha). Do this only enough to make the name pronounceable.
Once you have a name, you can incorporate it into ritual work, or use it as a personal mantra. Regardless of how you utilize the name, you should not share it with anyone else, and keep it private.
